Supporting the Future of Pipe Rehabilitation in Australia

RSM Lining Supplies has been a key partner in Australia since 2018 for Sewertronics and 2024 for Dancutter, providing contractors with access to advanced trenchless technology and comprehensive support solutions.

With over two decades of global experience in CIPP, RSM has built one of the most extensive supply networks in the region—covering everything from liners and resins to UV LED curing systems, robotic cutting equipment, inspection cameras, and training.

We spoke with Stephen Fanning, who leads RSM in Australia, about market developments, regional challenges, and the growing demand for flexible, high-performance solutions.

About RSM and the Asia-Pacific Market

Q: Stephen, can you introduce your role and RSM’s presence in the region?

I run RSM Lining Supplies in Australia, and my background is firmly rooted in the drainage and rehabilitation industry. I’ve spent my career working in this space, so I understand these products from a practical standpoint—not just a commercial one.

Globally, RSM has over 20 years of experience in CIPP. In Australia, we’ve been operating since 2011 and have developed a comprehensive supply and support network for pipe rehabilitation.

The Asia-Pacific region is a major growth area. We’re seeing increased infrastructure investment, ageing pipe networks, tightening environmental regulations, and a strong shift towards trenchless solutions. My role is to ensure contractors have access to the same high-quality equipment and expertise available in more established markets.

Meeting Australia’s Unique Operational Challenges

Q: Australia presents unique conditions—why are Sewertronics and Dancutter important in this region?

Australia is a genuinely different market. We regularly work in extreme heat—40°C conditions where resin pot life drops significantly. Contractors often operate across vast distances, sometimes up to 10 hours from the nearest supplier. On top of that, we have strict plumbing regulations under the WaterMark certification system.

This is where the technology really matters.

Sewertronics SpeedyLight systems are ideal because they’re lightweight, low-power, and highly portable. Contractors can transport them easily and operate in remote locations without needing large generators or boilers. In many cases, they’re working under houses with limited power supply and high temperatures—so efficiency and simplicity are critical.

Dancutter plays an equally important role. After lining, reinstating lateral connections is essential. The DC Superflex is compact, reliable, and designed to navigate the tight bends common in Australian domestic pipe systems. That flexibility is crucial in our market.

Contractor Feedback: Simplicity, Confidence, and Performance

Q: How do contractors respond to these systems?

The response has been overwhelmingly positive, and it comes down to practical design.

One customer described the SpeedyLight as the first UV system that allows you to inspect the installation before committing to the cure. That ability to verify your work beforehand builds real confidence—especially on critical jobs

With Dancutter, we consistently hear about ease of use and durability. The DC Superflex is straightforward—you don’t need extensive training to operate it—and it’s built to handle tough materials like concrete, cast iron, and PVC. The camera quality also improves precision during reinstatement.

What we’re seeing more and more is the adoption of a complete workflow:

  • Inspection (Minicam)
  • Lining and curing (Sewertronics)
  • Reinstatement (Dancutter)

That integrated ecosystem helps contractors work more efficiently and consistently.

Market Drivers: Infrastructure, Regulation, and Skills Shortage

Q: What’s currently shaping purchasing decisions in your region?

The biggest factor is ageing infrastructure. Many pipe systems in Australia’s major cities—Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane—are 50 to 100 years old. Traditional dig-and-replace methods are becoming less viable due to cost, disruption, and environmental impact.

This is driving strong demand for trenchless rehabilitation and CIPP technologies.

At the same time, Australia is facing a skills shortage. Contractors are struggling to find experienced personnel, which increases demand for equipment that is:

  • Easy to use
  • Reliable
  • Less dependent on manual expertise

For example, the SpeedyLight system simplifies the curing process, allowing faster training and more consistent results when used with our RSM Delta Liner & Magma Flex Liner systems. .

Overall, the combination of infrastructure pressure, regulatory requirements, labour shortages, and rising costs creates the perfect conditions for advanced trenchless solutions.

The Role of IFAT: Connecting Global Markets

Q: From an international perspective, why is IFAT important?

IFAT is unique—it brings together the entire global industry in one place.

For us, it’s an opportunity to strengthen relationships with partners like Sewertronics, Dancutter, and the wider Minicam Group. Face-to-face discussions allow us to align on product development, share real-world feedback, and plan ahead in ways that simply aren’t possible remotely.

It’s also where we gain insight into global trends. What’s happening in Europe or North America often reaches Australia within a few years, so IFAT gives us valuable early visibility.

And importantly, it helps us understand the competitive landscape and ensures we’re bringing the right technologies to our market at the right time.

Key Insights from Australia

    • Strong growth in trenchless solutions driven by ageing infrastructure
    • Increasing importance of portable, efficient equipment for remote operations
    • High demand for easy-to-use systems due to skills shortages
    • Integrated workflows (inspection → curing → reinstatement) improving productivity
    • Asia-Pacific emerging as a key growth region for rehabilitation technologies
