Customer Introduction

Cargate Engineering is a specialist waste management contractor based in Bury St Edmunds focused on trenchless pipeline rehabilitation. Their team is known for fast turnarounds and high-precision work, making use of advanced equipment to deliver reliable solutions in high-pressure and time-sensitive environments.

Problem

Cargate Engineering recently encountered two demanding rehabilitation jobs, both presenting unique rehabilitation challenges.

The first job was at a highway site, where approximately 400m needed to be cleared and cleaned, inspected and relined and over 25 laterals needed to be reopened. The site presented challenges due to intrusions and roots ingress, along with a no-dig requirement for local driveways and treelines.

The second project was an emergency job at a major international fast-food restaurant where the site had failed final inspection due to 2 damaged foul lines. The site was due for handover that weekend and failure to fix the foul lines would delay the opening. Cargate Engineering was called in to work through the night to reline the damaged lines and ensure the opening timeline was met.

“The pressure was on — we had to work cleanly and quickly. Both projects demanded high-quality trenchless solutions without disruption,” said Ben, Operations Manager

Solution

The team used a combined toolkit from Minicam Group – MinicamDancutter, and Sewertronics – to tackle both jobs.

At the highway site, Cargate Engineering used Minicam’s SOLO PRO+ and Crawler Systems – both a van mounted CRP140 and Proteus Lite System – to inspect the lines prior to cutting and lining. To ensure that the site was prepped for relining, the team removed intrusions and roots using a Dancutter MAXI FLEX and SUPER FLEX. Using the Sewertronics SpeedyLight+ UV LED rehabilitation system and consumable products from RSM Lining Supplies, Cargate Engineering achieved 160m of DN225 and 240m of DN150 MagmaFlex structural liner, providing a trenchless solution that avoided having to dig local driveways or treelines. Finally, the team used the Dancutter MAXI FLEX and SUPER FLEX to reopen 28 laterals after lining.

For the emergency fast food restaurant job, Cargate Engineering’s team again utilized Minicam’s SOLO PRO+ for pre-lining inspection and to assist with lateral location during the cutting process. The team using the Sewertronics SpeedyLight+ to invert and cure 2 x 30m liners throughout the night to ensure the site was ready for handover and opening that weekend.

“Using SpeedyLight+ let us cure the liners quickly without compromising strength. The combo of the three systems saved us time and stress,” added Luke, Head of Lining/Surveying Team

Results

Cargate Engineering completed both jobs using trenchless technologies, ensuring zero excavation and minimal disturbance to nearby residences and businesses. A requirement for the highway job – Cargate Engineering completed the job without digging up driveways or treelines.

Both job sites were inspecting, cleared, relined and reinstated quickly and smoothly. Each system – Minicam’s inspection tools, Dancutter’s cutting systems and Sewertronics’ UV LED rehabilitation system – integrated seamlessly and allowed Cargate Engineering to improve their workflow.

At the highway site, Cargate Engineering delivered 400m of lining and reinstatement of 28 laterals over 2 weeks.

For the emergency fast food restaurant job, Cargate Engineering delivered 2 x 30m of lining on damaged foul lines, allowing the site handover and restaurant opening to take place as scheduled.

Conclusion

This case shows the effectiveness of combining Minicam, Dancutter, and Sewertronics technology for high-demand, trenchless rehabilitation. Whether planned or reactive, these tools enabled the team to complete both jobs without disruption and with total confidence.
